A 25-year-old man has been arrested in southern Spain on suspicion of killing his parents and injuring four other individuals in a mass shooting. The incident occurred in El Ejido, a town near AlmerÃa, on Monday at approximately 11:00 PM local time (22:00 BST), according to police reports.
Authorities confirmed that four people sustained serious injuries and were subsequently transported to a hospital. Among the injured are two children, with local media identifying one as the suspect's seven-month-old son. The other child injured is reportedly an 18-month-old baby. A 60-year-old man is also believed to be among those wounded in the attack.
Investigation Underway
The identities of both the suspect and the victims have not been officially released by Spanish authorities. Following the shooting, the suspect was briefly at large before surrendering himself at a local police station, as reported by Europa Press.
The Guardia Civil has initiated an investigation into the attack to determine a possible motive for the shooting. Mass shootings are considered rare in Spain; Project Insight, an organization that monitors gun crime in Europe, recorded only four such incidents between 2000 and 2023.
